How does renewal work? Why do I need to renew?

WiredScore development certifications last for 18 months after building completion, after which the asset is recertified as an occupied building using the occupied scorecard. This verifies that the building’s systems perform as intended once tenants or residents are in place.

Occupied buildings then enter a two-year rolling renewal cycle.

Every recertification includes a new on-site visit and is carried out against the most up-to-date WiredScore or SmartScore standard. This ensures continued alignment with current best practices and allows WiredScore to identify any changes in the building that may warrant improvements or updated scoring.

The renewal process follows the same structured steps as the initial certification – updated reports, evidence submission and review, improvement opportunities, and the ability to increase the certification level. Renewing a building demonstrates an ongoing commitment to providing a best-in-class experience for tenants or residents and ensures the certification remains accurate, relevant, and reflective of real-world performance.
