The UNSW Health Translation Hub (HTH), a groundbreaking 35,000 sqm Health and Life Sciences development in Randwick, Sydney, is poised to revolutionize healthcare in Australia.
Developed by Plenary in partnership with UNSW Sydney, the new HTH facility is the first of its kind in Australia, physically connecting clinicians, researchers, and public healthcare with private enterprise to foster cutting-edge research and innovation to change ‘the future of health’ for Australians.
To realize the ambition of attracting world-leading researchers and innovators, public and private health operators, and private industry, Plenary set out to provide an unprecedented facility; from ESG credentials through to connectivity. For the latter, WiredScore Certification was identified as a strategic tool to:
- highlight HTH’s exceptional digital infrastructure and connectivity; and
- accelerate due diligence for prospective tenants by providing surety as to the facility’s tech readiness.
To ensure it was set up for success, Plenary pursued WiredScore Pre-Certification early in the design and construction process, using the global benchmark as a means of providing certainty for its future occupants and customers.

To ensure it was set up for success, Plenary pursued WiredScore Pre-Certification early in the design and construction process, using the global benchmark as a means of providing certainty for its future occupants and customers.
What is WiredScore Pre-Certification?
WiredScore Pre-Certification is a specialized designation that signals a building’s future-ready digital infrastructure to prospective tenants and investors — before construction is complete. This certification is awarded after evaluating the digital infrastructure during the planning and design phases, ensuring the building will meet the highest standards for connectivity and tech enablement.
For Plenary, achieving WiredScore Pre-Certification for the HTH created a powerful marketing tool to demonstrate the building’s commitment to delivering a world-class digital experience. This early-stage recognition reassured prospective tenants of the building’s ability to support the next generation of healthcare research and innovation, fast-tracking leasing discussions and negotiations well before HTH’s scheduled completion in 2025.
The WiredScore Pre-Certification seal features prominently in all marketing and leasing materials, further distinguishing HTH in the marketplace. This ensured potential occupiers knew they would benefit from future-proof, reliable digital connectivity, which is vital for any organization engaged in data-intensive, high-performance research.
“Plenary set out to create the UNSW Health Translation Hub as a building which will allow its users to collaborate on research, and drive innovation to change the future of health. To achieve this, the building will set a new standard in the Health and Life Science category. A key focus for us is intuitive and biophilic design, coupled with the highest standard of connectivity. Achieving a WiredScore Platinum rating demonstrates to our tenants that they will receive the highest form of connectivity, ensuring safety in their research and promoting further innovation by breaking down barriers in digital infrastructure.
Future-Proofing with WiredScore: How HTH Stays Ahead
Plenary’s focus on WiredScore Certification from the start ensured that the HTH would meet—and exceed—digital connectivity standards critical to health and life sciences organizations.
Key design features implemented to align with WiredScore’s stringent criteria include:
- Diverse pathways for internet service providers to eliminate single points of failure, ensuring continuous, reliable connectivity.
- An in-building mobile enhancement system to support seamless mobile connectivity throughout the facility.
- Flexible telecommunications infrastructure, with ample space for future tech upgrades, eliminating the risk of obsolescence as new technologies emerge.
These design choices ensure that the HTH remains at the forefront of digital innovation, reinforcing its ability to support world-class research and development activities.
