I joined WiredScore a decade ago in large part because I was thrilled by its mission: to make the world’s buildings better connected. Coming from my previous role in government, I was drawn to the challenge of creating public good, but doing so with the agility and ambition of a private sector startup. Arie had founded something nascent but remarkable, and I wanted to help shape its future.
Over that decade, we’ve written an extraordinary chapter in the history not just of our own company, but of our industry; fundamentally reshaping standards and guiding real estate into the modern era. We’ve certified over a billion square feet of the places people work, live and play across 42 countries. And we’ve been able to partner with over 1,000 exceptional clients, and do so with some of the most inspiring and generous colleagues imaginable.
Today, I’m delighted to announce the next chapter of our journey as WiredScore is acquired by Meter. It’s rare that you find a company with as similar a mission as your own, and in Meter I believe we’ve found the best place to create the world that we (both) believe should exist.
Meter is a leading provider of internet infrastructure, providing networking-as-a-service to businesses. Founded in San Francisco, the company works with some of the most ambitious organizations in the world, including Bridgewater, Tishman Speyer, Reddit, and Lyft.
Our partnership with Meter began last year when they became the provider for WiredScore Connect. As I got to know founders Sunil and Anil and the wider Meter team, I was awed by their vision, ambition and depth of talent. They don’t just want to break the current model of disaggregated networking components, they want to remake models everywhere they can and they want to do it as fast as possible.
These conversations also made it clear that we would be incomparably stronger as one organization. By bringing together WiredScore’s globally recognized standards, relationships, and reach with Meter’s internet infrastructure platform we can help drive better digital performance for the owners and users of real estate everywhere.
Not everything is going to change. The WiredScore and SmartScore certifications will remain global, independent standards for technology in real estate. To ensure our certifications remain the industry’s North Star, we will introduce a governance council later this year to formalize the role of independent industry experts and thought leaders in shaping the evolution of our standards and upholding the integrity of the standards development process.
I’m deeply grateful to our team, our clients and our partners who have helped build WiredScore into what it is today. We’re just getting started.
Onwards,
William Newton
