ICD Brookfield Place: the ME’s first WiredScore & SmartScore Platinum-level building
In 2022, ICD Brookfield Place became the first building to receive both WiredScore and SmartScore certifications at Platinum level in the Middle East.
ICD Brookfield Place is the region’s premier lifestyle and business destination combining 990,000 sq. ft. of sustainable, future-ready workspace with 180,000 sq. ft. of highly curated dining, retail, and community space.
ICD Brookfield Place sets the benchmark for commercial buildings in the Middle East, and stands for forward-looking innovations in the real estate sector. Thanks to the ‘vertical village’ concept, with its wide range of amenities and the use of market-leading technologies and processes, the building provides an extraordinary user experience. This also enables it to meet the highest requirements for sustainability, cost efficiency, and security.
The unique office and retail development, designed by Foster + Partners, is located in the heart of the Dubai International Financial Centre district (DIFC). It includes a 53-storey tower, featuring world-class workspaces, in an urban setting that celebrates its location and drives positive change to the area around it.
Users of ICD Brookfield Place can enjoy unmatched views of the Emirates Towers and Dubai Creek to the north, and The Burj Khalifa and Downtown Dubai area to the south. The site also enjoys good connectivity to the Sheikh Zayed Road, the Dubai Metro and the surrounding areas.

The SmartScore certification process:
Kick-off
The certification process started with a kick-off meeting between ICD Brookfield Place, WiredScore and Knight Frank, the Accredited Professional organization involved in the project. At this meeting, deadlines and responsibilities were defined and the process was discussed in the context of WiredScore’s launch in the Middle East.
Document analysis
The SmartScore Questionnaire was then used to make an initial assessment of the building, against the requirements of the certification at all levels. This assessment was verified in a joint workshop by the on-site ICD Brookfield Place and Knight Frank teams, resulting in the targeted Platinum certification level. The next steps and measures that were required to achieve the corresponding credits were also determined.
Implementation of improvements
We continuously worked towards achieving the desired certification level and provided new evidence for the measures discussed through an iterative process. This included working with Facilio, a WiredScore Accredited Solution. Facilio’s IoT-enabled Connected Operations Platform was adopted to democratize operational data across buildings onto a single cloud platform, helping ICD Brookefield’s teams gain 360° visibility into portfolio-wide operations and maintenance. The platform enables utility tracking, energy benchmarking analytics, and fault detection and diagnostics while also digitising their end-to-end O&M processes.
Finalization
After the documentation of the agreed measures was submitted, ICD Brookfield Place officially received SmartScore certification at Platinum level.
Marketing
The certificate and the summary of the certification results have been included in ICD Brookfield Place’s rental documents, websites, digital displays and reception plaques, as well as published in a press release.

ICD’S smart building concept
The Platinum level result is based on a number of user functionalities and technological principles that set ICD Brookfield Place apart from other buildings, such as:
- A digital parking-management system
Smooth user experience for vehicles by leveraging the license plate recognition technology to allow seamless entry to the basement of the building, optimizing the space. - The Axiis mobile app for engaging occupiers in the building
Building users have access to a whole host of data at their fingertips, from event spaces to feedback forms, as well as local retail, public and transport information. This boosts the user experience in the building through the converging of multiple data sets into one digestible format. - Wi-Fi in the common areas
Digital equity is afforded to both occupiers and guests through Wi-Fi in the common areas, allowing a free-flow of data throughout the building. This ensures that connection is not lost at crucial moments, as well as allowing for increased collaboration and a lobby-like feel to the ground floor which encourages co-working opportunities.
What made ICD Brookfield Place a Platinum level building?
Achieving Platinum level for both WiredScore and SmartScore certifications is no easy task. Here are a few additional ways in which ICD Brookfield Place showed their commitment to a best-in-class user experience:
The Converge network concept: This network concept merges several devices and systems to form a single network, allowing for seamless connection and data sharing. The structure enables the various building systems to communicate with each other and, if necessary, they can be expanded in the future.
Ecodomus software: This software creates, maintains and visualizes Building Information Modeling (BIM)-based digital building twins, making design and construction data available for building operations and maintenance. This improves the way the building is managed and retrofitted, bringing the value of digital twins to building owners and occupants for improved design and construction data collection, as well as handover, facility management, operation, and maintenance.
Connectivity diversity and resiliency: ICD Brookfield also boasts connections to both Etisalat and Du, which ensures any occupier moving into the building has the choice of either. Not only that, but the building is hard-wired to the DIFC data center which provides occupiers with 99.99% internet uptime and ensures maximum business continuity.
ICD Brookfield Place is leading the movement towards smart buildings in the Middle East and exemplifies the best-in-class experience modern occupiers are looking for. Achieving both WiredScore and SmartScore certifications shows a commitment to this high standard both now and in the future.
