What led you to join the WiredScore AP program?

GV–

I was looking for a way to benchmark my clients’ buildings based on the quality of their in-building technology and connectivity features. I quickly found that WiredScore is the only certification body with the global scale and product suite to achieve this.

Aside from this specific reason, I was also excited to learn about the WiredScore certification scorecard criteria in detail, as I knew this would set me up to deliver world-class advisory services to our clients. WiredScore’s connectivity certifications are the cornerstone of delivering exceptional connectivity to tenants and laying the foundations for future smart building development. As a WiredScore AP, I can advise my clients about what connectivity features they must incorporate into new and existing buildings to set themselves up to deliver an exceptional connectivity and smart building experience to tenants.

What are some of the most exciting and innovative trends you’re seeing in the commercial real estate industry in Spain today?

GV–

The Spanish real estate sector is alive with innovation as we start to come out of the Covid-19 pandemic. We’re seeing growing demand from tenants, developers and property managers alike for building designs that incorporate world-class connectivity and smart technology into their core.

Some trends are being driven directly by the pandemic. For example, the shift towards contactless movement around buildings and more focus on reliable connectivity to support remote/hybrid working patterns. Less related to the pandemic, we’re also seeing the emergence of digital twins to support effective asset and facilities management and even the introduction of robots as building concierges!

How is your PhD preparing you to support clients to future-proof their buildings?

GV–

Through my PhD, I’m developing a decision-making tool to aid the selection of technology solutions for Smart Buildings to optimise investment in technology across Real Estate using ESG criteria. I analyze the main features of new technology and apply them to cutting edge projects for some of the most important offices in Spain today.

By testing these technologies on real-life construction projects and existing buildings, I’m gathering first-hand feedback from landlords, developers and tenants, to inform my findings. My research is enabling me to shine a light on how the Spanish real estate industry can become world-leading in the area of technology-for-good.

What’s the most significant lesson that the WiredScore AP training taught you?

GV–

The WiredScore AP training taught me more about the key risks and challenges that new developments face from the ever-changing technical world we live in. It also taught me how these risks and challenges can be most effectively mitigated through best-practice engineering design. WiredScore certification provides an invaluable framework to inform design that delivers resilient and future-ready buildings.
