How do WiredScore and BICSI complement each other when looking at design or evaluation of a commercial building?

BICSI and WiredScore share similar goals. For example, both standards focus on ensuring buildings can meet occupiers’ connectivity needs by designing the pathways and spaces needed for communication infrastructure from the start.

Where WiredScore certification adds additional value is the certification package clients receive. The building report and fact sheets provide easy-to-access information for prospective occupiers on the technology provisions within the building, which help them to make faster leasing decisions.

How do you use your WiredScore and SmartScore accreditation to make a difference for your clients in North America?

At BR+A, we use the WiredScore and SmartScore accreditations to showcase to our clients that we understand what occupiers want from the communication services within an office space. Whether it’s planning spaces with an architect or helping an owner certify an existing building, it is easier to establish credibility in your design by being accredited.

What innovations most excite you about the future of technology in real estate?

BR+A has been working with clients to develop integrated buildings to support owners and occupiers. Buildings are becoming living entities with a central nervous or communication system. Allowing building systems to communicate with each other, and to those responsible for the building, is reducing response times to issues and allowing owners to take a proactive approach to building maintenance, which reduces down time and the likelihood of issues arising.

The more we as designers promote good practices such as the WiredScore and SmartScore standards, the better our results

As an RCDD, how has participating in WiredScore’s Accredited Professional program contributed to your continuing education?

For RCDD credential holders, WiredScore’s Accredited Professional program is not just a chance to gain four Continuing Education Credits, it’s also an opportunity to obtain knowledge on the needs of building owners and occupiers looking for office space.

What one piece of advice would you give someone considering completing both the WiredScore and SmartScore accreditations?

For anyone working toward obtaining the WiredScore or SmartScore accreditations, I recommend devoting time to the training and exam. Once you’re accredited, take the time to educate the owners and architects within your network about your achievement and how it will enhance your future service delivery. WiredScore is a BICSI Continuing Education Credit (CEC) provider! WiredScore Accredited Professional courses earn BICSI credential holders four CECs. Your WiredScore AP certificates of completion automatically include your BICSI Event ID, meaning you can seamlessly apply for BICSI CECs.

Note: If you become a WiredScore AP prior to 28 February, 2023, you will need to submit an CEC application to BICSI’s Credentialing Department with your supporting documentation to apply for BICSI CECs.
